Faces of the Enemy

While in Tibet, I of course saw police and soldiers nearly everywhere. I tried to photograph them as discretely as I could, to give a feel for what it’s like to see them running around like they own the place, but also to show that they’re individually often very small, physically unthreatening, and ultimately just ordinary humans. It’s only when they come together in large numbers with the backing of their government that they’re capable — physically and perhaps also mentally — of the atrocities they’re so famous for.
