ONE WORLD. ONE DREAM. FREE TIBET!

M16 in Washington DC
16 Mar 2008 23:00 EDT

An account of the third day of escalating protest in Washington, DC following China’s violent repression of Tibet’s 2008 uprising.

Tibet is in revolution. In Washington, DC, protests against China’s violent crackdowns, mass arrests, and killings escalates into the third day. Tibetans and supporters from as far as Baltimore, MD (1hr drive) and Charlottesville, VA (3hr drive) converge on the Chinese Embassy, whose walls had been splattered with ‘blood’ overnight and painted with the words “FREE TIBET”.

After one Tibetan man, Tenzing from Virginia, is arrested by police for attempting to deliver a letter to the Embassy, the crowd’s frustration and determination rises. Another Tibetan man, Kunga, age 28 from Maryland, is arrested and charged with felony property destruction, accused of throwing a rock which broke an embassy window. One Tibetan woman, 8 months pregnant, is injured, reportedly by police during the arrests, and taken to the hospital for examination.

Meanwhile, the surrender deadline passes in Lhasa and Chinese troops raid Tibetan homes, arresting over 600 people.
