More protests in Golok
23 Mar 2008 14:00 EDT

This report is one in a series of word-of-mouth reports of the revolution in Tibet. Since China closed Tibet to foreigners, mainstream media has stopped coverage of the ongoing protests despite their continued spread. I hope word of Tibetans’ brave acts of defiance will spread, despite the present impossibility of confirming any details.

Darlak county, Golok, Amdo (Ch: Dari) - In a village outside the main town, some 300-500 armed nomads have gathered and engaged in peaceful expression against Chinese rule. A representative was sent to intercept a small unit of soldiers en route from Darlak to the village telling them to turn back and that there would be a lot of bloodshed if they confronted the nomads. The soldiers initially left, but telephone communication to the area seems to have been cut off.
